Advances in the rights of girls, women and gender diverse people to control their bodies and their lives are under increasing threat in the Oceanic Pacific region and globally. The climate crisis is a central and intensifying driver of these challenges, compounding the effects of anti-rights movements, global instability, and declining funding. Climate change disproportionately impacts girls and women, deepening existing inequalities and undermining progress across health, including sexual and reproductive health and rights, education, safety, shelter and economic participation.

Women Deliver 2026, hosted by the Oceanic Pacific region and held in Australia, presents a pivotal opportunity for the Australian Government and philanthropy to galvanise international momentum by providing catalytic investment for girls and women in the Asia-Pacific region and around the world. This moment calls for bold, coordinated action to strengthen girls’ and women’s ability to control their lives and shape resilient, equitable futures. Central to this is investing in inclusive, individual-level data that reflects the lived realities of everybody.

Equality Insights, through the International Women’s Development Agency, is supporting a cross-sector group of organisations’ recommendations to the Australian government, including doubling of the Gender Equality Fund to $130m per year ongoing to increase its reach and impact across Australia’s development program.
